A Thank You from Mrs. Gutheil's SuperKids at Washington Drive Primary School
Some moments as an author stop you in your tracks — and this is one of them.
I recently received the most beautiful, heartfelt thank-you card from Mrs. Emily Gutheil's Kindergarten class at Washington Drive Primary School on Long Island, NY. The card was covered in the most adorable hand-drawn elephants, each one uniquely decorated by a student — and at the center, a message that truly moved me:
"We are brave, we try each day,
Even when it's hard — we find our way!
We won't give up, we'll keep on going,
That's how our confidence keeps growing!"
The class wrote: "Dear Mrs. Devane, We loved your book! We learned about being brave. We earned our 'Bravery and Confidence Badge'! Thank you so much! From — Mrs. Gutheil and The SuperKids 💙"
I am so deeply touched. Knowing that these little ones connected with the message of bravery and confidence — and that they earned their very own Bravery and Confidence Badge — is exactly why I write.
Mrs. Gutheil reached out to share that she heard about my work through a wonderful interview I did with Mark Ingrassia on his Special Ed Rising podcast. Mark connected us, and I'm so grateful he did. Mrs. Gutheil is clearly a passionate, caring educator who goes above and beyond for her students — and her SuperKids are proof of that!
To Mrs. Gutheil and every single SuperKid at Washington Drive Primary School: thank you. You made this author's heart so full. Keep being brave, keep finding your way, and never stop growing! 💙🐘
